It is against the law to plagiarize the code first of all and then when you read the Michigan Residential Code referenced in the Troy ordinance they have miss quoted it. Get you a copy of the MRC and see what it REALLY says at E4105.5 For those of you on this forum who don't have a MRC look in the IRC and it says the same thing as the MRC. Someone needs to challenge the inspector(s). You can tell them I said so because they both know me. This really ticks me off.

George, with Troy's version of 4105.5, could the part that is underlined be an amendedment to the MRC?

Actually Steve- The entire State of Michigan is subject to the same Code. I happen to have been on the committee that amended the IRC and thus produced the MRC. The City of Troy is not allowed by law to amend the MRC. My mentor used to tell me "George, tell em to show you in the book" and I think that a great way to handle any code issue.

Hey George, Are you sure the local communities can't have something more strict than the MRC? I was under the impression that they couldn't have less but were allowed to enact more stringent regulations.

Absolutely sure of this one. I may need straightening out on a few code interpretations from time to time, but the State Electrical code is not amendable. Feel free to call the Electrical Board and confirm my statement
