Please direct me to a reference that gives strand dia and number of strands for different stranded wire gages.

They also make a wire gage tool. I have one. Just be careful it is made of metal so do not put it on live wire.

The tool looks like a mic. It was a give away from a salesman for Burndy (FCI).
