Looking at the NEC, it seems as though the requirement for two small appliance circuits has been in place a good many years. Can anybody place when these separate circuits were first required by code?

Similarly, it appears that the 3VA per square foot rule (residential) for general circuits has also been there a long time.

Can anyone summarize the NEC requirements, and/or typical arrangements of small appliance and general circuits over the years, purely out of historical interest?

I have the 3VA as far back as 51, I think the 2 small appliance ckts appeared in65 I don't see it in 210 in the 1962 but I will look again

The 1962 has a new section 220.4(h) small appliance -dwelling units.

It sets demand loads of 1500 for each 2 wire BC for aplliance circuits it does not specify the minimum number required or the minimum ampacity. It looks like it could have been a 15A BC.

Again nothing in 210.
