According to the code, a switch or recepticle is to be located no closer than 5ft away from the inside edge of the spa. Does that include the on/off switch that controls the spa motor, even though it is on a GFI breaker? Also, this spa motor has a 2 prong plug, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the GFI breaker?

Most Spa's I have hooked up have air switches for controls on the motors and pumps. My understanding as far as the GFCI breaker it is made to trip not only on ground faults and shorts but monitor the unbalanced current on the ungrounded and grounded conductors not to ground. And therefore trip before reaching a theshold of 6 ma. This is not text book but the general idea. I hope others reply if not right.
The way a GFI works is if electricity takes any other path than the normal neutral path, than the GFI will sense an imbalance and trip. So it should still trip without a ground conductor on the spa plug. But saying that, the motor would not be grounded, which seems to me if it had one, would help the path of a possible fault or inbalance.
