Have any of the group viewing this BB had any exposure to the new "5/8" inch galvanized ground rod manufactured by Galvan? The rod is listed but it is not "5/8" inch. Are the inspectors approving same based on the wording at NEC 250.52(A)(5)? Check it out at: http://www.galvanelectrical.com
We have some inspectors that maintain that a galvanized rod must be 5/8" diameter. The Galvan rod is just a touch over 1/2" in diameter. Based on my research, with UL and NEMA, the Galvan rod does not have to be 5/8" and coplies with 250.52(A)(5)(b). even though it is a steel rod that has been galvanized.
hi, i was wondering about this a year or two ago. i do not use galvanized rods myself. i know they are cheaper but there is always a chance for some question about the acceptability of this type rod that i just stick with copper.
all the ones i have ever seen are the small 1/2" ones..i never use any type of 1/2" rods, 5/8 is the min for me..1/2" will bend too easy!
