I was especially interested in the discussion concerning a choke coil when a thermostat wire was wrapped "around" the cable or raceway to and AC unit, re 300.11(B).

Ah, aren't there at least TWO conductors in that thermostat wire with current flowing BOTH ways? No magnetic field induced on the steel EMT so no "choke" effect.

That aside, the code prohibits wiring or a raceway from being used as a support for LV wiring so that is the reason for not doing this.

If I did this on purpose it would be to suppress common mode tranients. :-)

That is pretty common in the data world, using ferrite beads. You are right, the differential signal in the pair is not affected.

Seems we take code issues a lot more seriously here on this BB than on that one.

Ignore the violations and take the topic into deep space. Chokes, ferite beads...
