Adding a new dedicated 20A circuit for AC plug in bedroom to an older house. Is CB required to be AFCI?

Yes. Also, be sure the A/C meets the new requirement of 440.65 440.65 Leakage Current Detection and Interruption (LCDI) and Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI).
Single-phase cord-and-plug-connected room air conditioners shall be provided with factory-installed LCDI or AFCI protection. The LCDI or AFCI protection shall be an integral part of the attachment plug or be located in the power supply cord within 300 mm (12 in.) of the attachment plug.

HO already has older model AC but they can still use it if it does not meet 440.65 can't they?

Ryan why would he need to check on this. He is only installing a receptacle. This would be a manufacturer issue. Homeowner can plug in whatever they want. I bought an a/c three weeks ago without this. Do I have to unplug it?

Yep! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.electrical-contractor.net/ubb/biggrin.gif) I aree that this is one of those sections that make the homeowner responsible for following the code...which is typically an act of futility. Its sort of like plugging in an 1875 Watt hair dryer into a 20 amp circuit with a 15 amp receptacle on it.
