I just found your website and thought I would get your opinion on a hot topic at work.

I work for a cable/internet service provider. As you know we are required to "bond "our installs before entering the dwelling. We use a #10 solid copper wire. The question, is there a NEC stipulation stating that we can not attach a galvanized ground strap to the galvanized conduit between the meter housing and the weather-head?Realizing we need to maintain clearance from the meter base so as not to impede access for the utility workers and clearance from the weather-head. These problems are usually not a issue.

This option would be our third choice, priority wise. The #6 copper being the first, the ground rod the second. The discussion continues to center around ownership of the conduit. If it is truly owned by the customer why is the local power utility company raising a fuss when they find us attached to the conduit.

thanks, David

820.40(B)(1)(4) clearly permits that installation.
