QUESTION
A coal Conveyor is a Class 2 division 1 area. How far away from the conveyor does the area a class 2 division 1 extend ???

This is a question only the engineer that designer the project can answer. Many times it extends for 20 or 30 feet, other times only 18 inches. What is your level of comfort? Maybe there is some standard out there that the engineers will consult?

You could also try contacting MSHA (http://www.MSHA.gov/) or one of their inspectors for guidance.

If the conveyor is underground in a mine, NEC does not apply.
