A guy I work with was installing an in cabinet dishwasher. He had already supplied an MC cable to feed it. The dishwasher came with an installed appliance cord with cord cap, all ready to go when plugged in. He was asking if he should go to the trouble of removing the cord and hard wiring it or do it the easy way and install a recepticle. He also wanted to know if he installed a recepticle, would he need to change the breaker to 15 amps. I told him I would look for it in the code. Any suggestions?

gunther;

i think you may find that the make cord cap provides a means of disconnect for the motorized unit , which usually will not accept loto...of course if the service panel is in the kitchen the point it moot...

Install a receptacle. No need to change to a 15 amp circuit unless required by manufacturer.

The listing for the dishwasher is most likely for cord installation. While reading the wiring installation instructions, you will be able to determine if you can remove the cord and hard wire it.
422.34 is usually appropiate for disconnecting means of a dishwasher.
