jb—you raise a very good point. It took a lot of work to get a variance for the GFCI requirement, but because habitable space under the rock was ruled to be over 11,000 years old, [radiocarbon dating of squirrel droppings] and bear fat in the "light fixture" was judged as "not (legally) flammable."

It’s getting tougher every year though… I now have to prove that the lamp flame evolved from a “natural source.” Fortunately, a lightning strike on a bush about ½ mile away is my “official explanation” for the current flame source. [I live in mortal fear of sudden wind gusts through the cave.]

And you thought electrical inspectors could be tough…
