A customer wants 2 hi-hats over a tub. I have done this before and installed a shower trim. However, she would like 4" size. I can't fing a 4" shower trim, but I also think they may not be necessary. Is the area over a tub considered a damp location, or is this a call for the AHJ?

Redsy, I went through this with my AHJ a few months ago. He said i needed a shower trim and i said i dont think that a ceiling above a tub is a wet location in the eyes of the NEC. He read the definition of a wet/damp location in art 100 and agreed with me. Most open trims are listed for damp locations and thats what we use over a tub.

Thanks for the quick input, arsegee. I am concerned that if we install 4" cans and he flags the final, I'll have to cut out the fixtures to install 6". I will discuss it first.

Juno makes a shower trim for their IC-1 housing that uses a 50PAR20. You could install what ever trim style the owner wants and if the inspector give you a hard time change the trim to the shower trims. I don't remember the part number right now but can post it for you later today. Juno also makes a 6" shower trim for their IC-2 housing that uses a 75PAR38 lamp.

I have used open bulb recess over tubs with no problem as long as there isn't a shower.

Hi, thought I would add my two cents. If the bulb exploded, would you want to be under it in the tub? Just a thought.
