I did some load calcs for a residential triplex. Each unit totalled 50 amps. The house load was 55 amps. The service load totalled 174 amps. The building is in an undergrounded area and the only service voltage available is 480 volts, single phase. I want to install: A 100 amp 480 volt safety switch. A 50 KVA transformer to supply the 120/240 volts. A meter pack rated at 200 amps. 4 - 60 amp panels. Think it will fly? Thanks Bob
Bob, Are you saying that the utility will not supply you with a 120/240 volt service?
The only way I can imagine a utility accepting an installation as you described is to install a 480 volt meter before the disconnect and transformer then have 4 customer read meters on the secondary side of the transformer. How would the utility control future un-metered loads being connected to the disconnect or transformer?
I erred on this one. The utility wants to install a pad mounted transformer on a 48" by 56" pad in the back yard. Not good. My option is to install a meter ahead of my own transformer in the basement. I couldn't seperately meter the units but the heat and hot water are central so it shouldn't be a big deal.
