Is there something new with the romex sheathing being color coded? have they adopted that and are enforcing it?? I was told that there may be a rule for these colors to make inspections "easier"
The 12/2 is yellow, 10/2 ( i think)is orange so on and so forth.
Would someone clear this up for me? what are the 14/2, 12/3 colors?
I am still buying 12/2, 10/2 with a white sheath from my supplier, but occassionaly I get a yello sheathed 12/2.
very curious

14awg is still white. It only specifies gauge and not conductor quanity. I think Southwire started the ball rolling and everyone else jumped in. There is no requirement as far as I know to have a colored sheath. I guess 8awg nmb will be the next color added, maybe blue... who knows.

Actually it is to help out the poor AHJ's. We are stoopid and can't tell the difference between 14 and 12 ga. wire. [Linked Image] Actually some of us get real busy while inspecting and it does help for instant identification of the wire. Just like some recess lights are white for non IC cans and silver for the IC type cans. This one also helps building inspectors know when insulation can or can not touch the light.
