States are starting to adopt the 2002 NEC. Its interesting to see what position they are taking with 2 issues:
NM cable over 3 floors
(this information is from an IAEI meeting and is belived to be correct)
Proposed to keep 1999 requirements on NM cable > 3 floors, wait and see what happens with 2005 NEC
Adoption of 2002 NEC end of January 2003
City of Seattle
Reviewing 2002 NEC and WAC rules
Supports use of NM cable > 3 floors
Will adopt 2002 NEC first quarter 2003

State of Oregon
Will adopt the 2002 NEC Oct 1, 2002
AFCI’s required for Hotels & Motels
Using 1999 NEC for NM cable

State of Alaska
Adopt 2002 NEC effective September 25, 2002.
Continuing education was 16 hours code for 2 year renewal, now will be 8 hours code, 8 hours industrial related

City of Anchorage, Alaska
Adopt the 2002 NEC “soon”.

State of Montana
Adopt 2002 NEC by Jan 2003. Local Jurisdictions to follow.
Adopt 2002 AFCI requirements and NM cable requirements

NY State just adopted the 1999 NEC with amendments via the NY State Building Code (July 1, 2002) Before that we were oficially on the 1993 NEC (I believe). I have not heard any plans for adoption of the 2002 NEC.

The state of Nebraska adopted the 2002 NEC effective 23 JULY 2002 with admendments.

1) 210.12 deleted. AFCI may be used but are not required.
2) 334.10 replaced the 2002 NEC language with the 1999 NEC language from 336-4.
3) 334.12 replaced the 2002 NEC language with the 1999 NEC language from 336-5.
4) 430.102 replace the 2002 NEC language with the 1999 NEC language from 430-102

IMHO a great set of changes

Here in NJ we are still under the 1999 NEC. The 2002 is suppose to be adopted soon. ( I have been hearing this since the beginning of the year.) [Linked Image]

Here in the south under the SBCCI we are currently under 2002 As of September 1, 2002.
I would like to know what admendments are in store for us.

I did not get as think so badly as you shocked I did.

My experiance has been:
Washington State inspector required AFCI protection on bedroom receptacles even though permit issued prior to 12/31/01.
City of Seattle inspectors require AFCI protection on bedroom receptacles for service change-outs.
Both the above simply look for AFCI breakers in the panel. They did not investigate further.
