Is their a chart around that could give a good guess of the watts of certain appliance. Like ceiling fans, refrigerator, washing machine etc. I was hoping for a general idea, or do I need to go to Lowes and start reading labels.

Get ahold of a great book called Ferm's Fast Finder. There is a chart in it for just what you are asking.

Check with your local power company. They are usually tuned into energy conservation, and have such listings available.
