It is not required to connect to anything else. That is why the section (680-22) is called "bonding" and not "grounding". The purpose is to make sure that every conductive object at the pool is at the same voltage.

Hello to a fellow New Yorker!

Also connect to the following items if they exist:
  • Groung Lug on the pump
  • Ladder (unless totally plastic)
  • other metal objects within 5 feet such as Chain link fence, metal framed windows, doors, leaders and gutters.
