Oh, silly me! I FORGOT that we've become a nation of "I want it fast and cheap" that overrides our 'do it right' foundation.
I heard that big sucking sound but it never seemed to stop...

1 - I pity anyone who has been in that situation, and 2 - if you're an electrician long enough, you will be in a situation like that. Sparky - WHAT'S your problem, dude? Those fixtures WERE American made by some of the best and brightest out of our finest institutions. 'course, they were gonna burn someone up, but.....what the heck?

I would think all that Fixtures sold in the US would have to come with standard thread screws. They do not. Why is that? How can they get away with that? These fixtures are very often installed by those not in the trade and it's unlikely that they would know or have a supply of 8/32s around. Bill

Good Lord, I thought it was just me. My pet junk fixtures are Chinese. There are instructions in English, but it is English as a 4th language. These Chinese fixtures just about cost me a friendship when I refused to install them. There was no way to attach to the box & the canopy wouldn't have covered a 3" box. UL Label? You must be kidding. These turkeys were sold at one of those traveling auctions that will sell you a 150 piece wrench set for $19.95. But what I really find aggravating is missing parts. The likelyhood of a missing part goes up exponentially the further you are from the parts house. What was that about a fixture that looked like a beer glass? I think all fixtures should be shipped with a beer glass & something to fill it. My choice would be Corona Lite.
Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example.

On a slight tangent here. How about the wiring compartments on bathroom exhaust fans. If I installed the same wires in a device box it would need to be about 4 times the size of what I have to work with. What the h*ll, at least its listed.

Tom, here's what an elegant $450 beerglass looks like, and it won't even hold beer. It'll leak!

Great article, Bill. (It must have been written by a very smart guy) PS Do you have 30 hour days out there on LI? I don't see how you fit all this in. Are there 2 Bill Addisses? (like Minime)

Scott, I found that there was this period of time every night (!) that I wasn't doing much except laying around. So, I've come up with ways to make use of that time. Hey, don't pay too much attention to 'his' description of January! (who knew?) Bill
