Does a metal lightpost that is 3 feet from a lake have to gfi protected? Also low voltage lighting on a dock can the wire just be stapled underneath (12v). Have not done to much work by bodies of water. Does the transformer have to be 10 feet away like a pool? thanks

Welcome to the forum, from another Jersey Guy

Your ? falls under Article 682, along with the other sections referenced.

As to GFI protection, a prudent move would be .....do it, Think about liability.

As to LV lighting, 12 volt....cable approved for sunlight resistance? (if required) Approved for wet/damp location??

I'm not "UP" on this Article, I'll read it tonite, time permitting.

If the local dockside resturants, that I assume get inspected, is any guide, 120v "twinkle" lights stapled to the rail are OK if they are on a GFCI.
Rope light is the upgrade.
