I played for my supper... and rent... and car note... etc. I began playing trombone and other brass in school band in sixth grade, moved to guitar in 9th grade, then to bass and it never really ended. I worked summers and holidays at the souths largest musical retailer throughout college and played at least two to three nights a week during college (maybe thats why it took me almost six years to graduate??).

Where I worked, you had to be good enough to sale just about any instrument, be it a guitar, bass, banjo, dobro, mandolin, keyboard even drums. Never was a reed player though.

After college I played full time for several years, doing guitar and vocals. Played about 150+ nights a year a traveled way too much. We did colleges and beach towns. Spent the summers of the mid nineties playing Panama City or Hilton Head Island. Played support slots for bands like Molly Hatchet, Starship, Survivor to name a few. Not a bad gig... when your single. But by this time i was married and it was rough on the home front.

So i got serious about this electrical thing and started getting my time in for license. Cut back on my playing and went back to school. Well no more gigs for me especially after I went out on my own. I never regret the music thing. I miss playing but not the travel.

I've since sold that drum kit in favour of a newer thing.
I'm still playing the Yamaha Bass, but as Electure keeps telling me, the strings are way too expensive {what more would you expect from a guitar player}.
Bass is easy to play, you need a knowledge of music though.
I started off in an Orchestra, with an up-right Bass and a Bow.
A few years later I started with the Scottish Society Pipe Band as a Snare Drummer.
If you are going to learn ANY instrument, learn to read music and in any key.

Love to play acoustic guitar. I mostly play at home, but occasionally at church. We have some very talented guitar players at church, so I stay out of the way

Before my life as a sparkie/inspector, I was a lead guitar player in a couple of heavy metal bands in the early 90's in L.A.

Never did hit it big, but had a blast doing it.

I still try to play at least a couple of times a week, but with a family it's hard to be in a band.

I have been playing the Drums since 1982, however, only began to "Actually Play Them And Make Good Sounds Come Out" In 1987 (or 1988... can't remember!!!).
This was when I bought my "Current Kit" from a close friend, and got rid of my "Cheezy First Kit".

Current kit is a 13 Piece "Personally Rebuilt" ROC brand kit - which was a low price optional set advertised in Modern Drummer circa 1986 to 1990.

Price of the 13 Piece kit as I remember, listed in a 1988 version of Modern Drummer:
$1,895.00

My Bud bought the Kit new in 1987 for the $1,895.00 price.
I bought the Kit from him for $650.00

Man, I love that kit!!!

Since it is nearly impossible to play the Drums at my House, they sit idle in storage!
