I recently installed a outlet outdoors for a soda machine. I Installed a gfi w/ in use cover. The customer calls today there is not enough power it keeps tripping. So I explain that the gfi won't trip because of too much power. They plugged it in with a extension cord into a regular outlet and it works. What do I do? Take aout the gfi?

It could be the GFI is doing it's job, and there is enough leakage current from the compressor to cause the GFI to trip.

Dnk nailed it.

I would not even think about removing the GFCI.

It's required.

It is probably doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

This is going to be quite an issue until all the vending machines are either fixed or replaced.

I would think we will see an increase in sales of leakage current testers

the instering issuse with vending machine i did see alot of older unit and i am sure it will be getting pretty messy with new code required gfci on it and yes of course the commpressor do have some current leakage but there are few other source can have current leakage as well.

i know one vending machine did have heat tape inside the soda vending machine and the tape was rotten for some reason and show up with current leakage and replace it.

Merci, Marc

Thanks for your replies. I remember hearing that you shouldn't put refrigerators on gfi's that is why I asked I wanted to make sure I was right that the gfi had to stay.
Anyway I went out there to take a look when I get there they tell me they fixed it they reset the gfi three times now it works. "Could you just check it" Sure enough the gfi was wet!
