Many of us belong to the NFPA or the IAEI.

Does anyone belong to ASTM or ANSI? ISA? IEEE? ASHRAE? Other related groups?

I'd like to hear about your expereinces with these groups, and whether you feel / felt that the membership was worth the dues.

Member of ANSI/IEEE here. It is like being a member of NFPA and only worth it if you are buying enough documentation to justify the members dues.

So for example if all you buy is an NEC book every three years, do not go to the conferences every year, no need to be a member.

I am a member of the IEEE and NFPA. Partially for the reduced cost for documentation, partially for the trade journals, but also to support my trade organizations. As part of my membership, they provide a measure of governmental policy lobbying for me, that I couldn't do myself by hassling my local congressman.

I belong to IAEE, and used to belong to NFPA.
The main reason I joined NFPA was that you were supposed to be able to call them and consult with an NEC expert. I attempted this on at least 6 occasions and was always told that nobody was available at the time. The last time I called, I explained this to the operator, and she put me into the voice mail of John Caloggero, one of the NEC Handbook writers. He never returned my call, so I never renewed my subscription.
I call that false advertising.

Redsy, I confirm your experience with NFPA with my own experience. Never tried calling but tried on three occasions in writing with no response.

I did not think I could answer yes in this thread now I realize I can.

I am also a member in good standing of the Hack Club.
