we have a lot of items in this trade that have different names in different parts of the country.

f-clip=madison clip
standoff or hanger=mineralac
flex=greenfield
unistrut=kindorf
kleenex=facial tissue
bandaid=adhesive strip
buddy=client who pays on time
***hole=client that gripes+doesn't pay on time
anyone else have some more?
but we all need to remember if we do our job well our grandchildren can enjoy the end product of our labor (almost a timeless legacy)

I've heard F-clips called Battleships, Madisons,and Hold-its. I've heard anti-oxident called Kool-Aid, Noalox, Contax, Duck poop and Goose grease. Some of these names are brand names, I'm sure, and some are just what they look like.

It seems that if you hold madison bars (metal ould work box supports) on their side, they resemble a battle ship, hold them upright, they look like the letter F.

How about these:
split bolts=gurneys
pulling elbows=jakes
NM=romex=string=rope
or "one bolts" a type of wire connector= I don't even know the proper name for them.
Does anyone have more?

I learned mini's as an apprentice, the first time someone asked me for a minerlac, I was confused.

And split bolts are called Burndys because thats a manuf. name.

Manuf. names are how most things get different names.

Anyone know what a Garvin cover is?

Trade names have slipped into common use more than many people realize. For example, how many people have forgotten that "aspirin" started as a trade name?

Here in England "Hoover" is commonly used as a generic name for any type of vacuum cleaner, and a type of heavy-duty double-pole junction box used for splitting a service to two or more main panels is often called a "Henley box."

Steve:
What IS a minerlac or mini? I have no idea!
