Sometimes new customers will call and they know specifically what they need done. They will only ask that we come and do it, they do not inquire about cost. I am sure you all get these calls. In situations like this, I have not decided if it is best to just go do the work, then present the bill, or explain our rates at the first phone conversation. Do any of you have a standard policy for this situation?

If they want to know or not, it's always a good policy to get a signature on an agreed price before working.

Our SOP is to tell the customer up front how much something will cost. That way they can't come back when your done and say; "well, I didn't think it was going to cost that much!!" Also, we tend to add a little to the up front quote then when we're done we drop that extra off and tell the customer; It actually only came to $xxx, we saved you $xxx. They are generally very happy and appreciative.
