I would like to offer my condolences to the people of London. I would also like to commend the professionalism of the emergency services that responded.

Perserverance.

I echo these sentiments. They are in my prayers and I hope that no one connected with this site was affected either directly or through a friend or a loved one.

I too offer my prayers and condolences.
It is a shame, that whenever we gather, some one or group has to cause destruction just to advance some personal agenda.

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts.

I've had the news reports on the BBC since I heard about the explosions this morning:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4661059.stm

It's now 4 p.m. here, and there is currently a news conference being broadcast.

On a technical note, one of the people answering questions is from London Underground (the subway system) and he has just given an answer to a question about early rumors that a massive power surge was responsible for one of the explosions.

It has emerged that the bomb at Edgware Road station blew a tunnel wall and hit three separate trains. The resulting derailments caused multiple breakers for traction current to trip out, and it was this which led to those rumors of a power surge.

Our thoughts and prayers to those killed and injuried, and to their families.

My condolences as well. Let us all pray that this does not continue to occur, especially during the games of 2012, where this would probably injur and kill many, many more people. Good luck to the people of London during this difficult time [Linked Image]

These attacks have made me think about the secondary effects of the Underground explosions. I have read several articles on how services were disconnected and rerouted after the Trade Center collapses.

In this case it would be extremely important to restore power and lighting to assist in the rescue effort. I am not familiar with subway systems but I would think that they have backup systems for emergency lighting and ventilation.

The evacuations were well coordinated and done quickly. That is an excellent example of the British response system. What would be interesting is to see how they deal with multiple problems in different tubes. I would think that ventilation would be a priority after the risk of fire had been assessed. Is this something that should be trained for on the scale of todays attacks?

Unfortunately I think these lessons will be put to use again.

Our thoughts are with you.

I heard that one of my cousins was on a tube (London Underground) train when a bomb went off in another carriage, but he is alright. He just has to find his way home with no transport running, others on that train have not been so lucky.
