Hey everyone. I have working for a small shop (me and the owner) for four years and I was just hired by a larger (30+ guys shop.) I am a little apprehensive about making the transisiton from a small shop to a big one. I was wondering if you guys might have any tips that would make the transisiton a little smoother?

Let your work do the talking. If you are a good electrical mechanic they will notice. Never claim you know how to do something you don't, honesty speaks volumes. No one knows everything you may know something they don't and visa versa. But hold your ground, some guys just get off screwing with the new guy. Best of luck to you.

I always tried to be less assertive to learn the routine in the shop, and the "pecking" order. Every shop has the few fellows that everyone respects the most, and looks to for leadership, so going slow for the first few weeks and learning who runs the everyday show is always beneficial. Then you can work up to being one of those few everyone else looks to.

I agree with everyones response... Just carry yourself like a professional and most all work like one. You don't have to know everything.. and no matter how hard you try you never will. Try and fit into the knew crew the best you can.. and never stop learning.The best tool you can carry with you is in your head. best of luck to you.. ToHo
