Hello everyone. I am an electrician by trade but I've been out of the field for a while.

My main hobby consists of sw reef aquariums. We are having some discussions about GFCIs and grounding probes (the grounding probe is placed in the aquarium's water) and need some professional assistance.

So here's the question. A pump shorts out while your hands are in the water. The ground probe drains the current and the GFCI trips. Do you get shocked??

Thanks a bunch,
Travis

Didn't know what a ground probe was, had to google it. And would not think it would hurt the situation. As it refferance voltage in the tanks water. As for if you would get shocked depends on a lot of factors, position of your hand between fault and ground potential ,and duration, ect. But I'd say you would be safer with one than without.
