A new nursing home is having a high incidence of lighting ballast failures. The lighting is 277V. The ballast manufacturer thinks it is power surges. I have two possible ideas: 1. The facility test the emergency generator under the building load once a month (the lights are on the generator). 2. I do not know, but maybe the contractor used a common neutral for the lighting circuits. Any ideas?
Had an old timer come in the other day with an old GE ballast. I said "wow, that looks to be about 20 years old," he said it's closer to 50. I replied, well they don't last that long anymore. he asked why not?!?!? Couldn't help but be amused by his question, all I could say was they just don't build them like they use to.
