I have a garage with the power being feed from the old single wires running out to the building and wrapped around porcelin holders knob and tub style. The wiring is very old and I have bear wiring showing at some places. It would be very diffcult to bring the new feed underground because of a driveway and a large patio. I wanted to know if the is a updated way to bring the wires out overhead. Something like the way the service is brought in? There is a service head where it leaves the house and where it enters teh garage. I do not think there is a ground out there now because, only three wires go out and I have a three way switch set up also (one in the garage and one in the kitchen). So I am asumming that there are two travler wires and a neutral.

Assuming you have the height needed to meet todays code you could use the same thing the power company uses.

Multiplex cables utilizing a bare conductor, factory assembled and twisted with one or more insulated conductors, such as duplex, triplex, or quadruplex type of construction.

Or UFO cable supported by a messenger wire.

Take a look at NEC Article 396.

edit; Thats UF cable UFO cable is tough to find. [Linked Image]

What would be an acceptable means of attaching UF to a messenger cable? UV resistant wire ties OK, or is something else called for?
