i'm wiring a "mother-in-law" addition to an existing house. lr,dr,br and minimal use kit. (microwave range only.)1000 sq ft. it calculates so that i can use a 100 amp sub that will be fed from a meter can/breaker combo located on the main house. the question is, can the sub be located in a walk-in closet that measures 5x11 and providing the proper working clearances are maintained? also would the sub require a main breaker. thx for any suggestions. ken m

If you dub your closet a "utility" closet (and not put anything combustable in there...) then you may...

But if you intend to use it as a clothes closet, you may not.

It appears that this addition will be attached to your house, if it is, the sub-panel does not need a main, if it is a detached building, it may need a main, see 225-31, 225-33.

As for the closet issue, depends how you feel about your mother-in-law and if the addition is attached to or well separated from your house.
