The new Leviton GFI recepts that come in a 3 pack at Home Depot are marked 15a on the box and 20a on the GFI recept. Assume the box is wrong??

The receptacle itself is rated for 15A with a 20A feed through rating, unless the receptacle slots are designed to accept a 20A plug.

A 15a GFCI is rated for 20a feed though. The rec is only rated at 15a but you can feed a 20a circuit (down range) though that 15a GFCI

This is no different than a standard 15 amp duplex receptacle.

Wouldn't you be able to tell from whether or not the nuetral has a horizontal slot on the face?

Ryan, good point! [Linked Image]

There is one difference that Scott did not point out (but I'm sure he knows), a 15 amp receptacle isn't marked "20 amp feed through" like the GFI is.

No they don't have the extra slot, but it does say 20 amp on the GFI - not 20 amp feed through.

210.21(B)(3) Receptacle Ratings for Various Size Circuits.

this is one of the reasons you have the markings on the GFCIs that are in question.

If it doesn't have the horizontal slot, it is not a 5-20R (20A) receptacle. [Linked Image]

Having the slot I believe means a 20a ckt and used as a dedicated circuit.
These GFI's do not have the slot, but are marked 20 amp.
