Is there a company that specializes in purchasing and reselling used breakers, especially old hard to find breakers? I have some cluttering my basement that I'd like to sell.

I have companies calling me all the time wanting to buy used breakers, so there is a market. We just throw away most old breakers, but we keep obsolete breaker for our own use. I doubt the ones we throw away(old ITE, Challenger, Westinghouse) would be of any interest to these companies.

If a fire causing death is the result of putting these breakers back in use, are we then considered accessories before the fact of manslaughter??? Especially those of us who are aware of their history. Just a thought, not meant to hijack the thread.

Gentlemen:
A good source for locating cb buyers is
"The Electrical Advertiser"

Over the years I have sold quite a few cb's that we removed during demo /reno jobs, but alas, the FPE's went to the trash.

If you tell him, no. If you don't it is.
Breakers are a bit different though I think.

There is a real problem with using old breakers!!

As per CSA and NEC all modifications to equipment remove the original approval.

From as simple a a JB, punch a hole in the box and it is no longer approved until the installation is completed in a proper manner, such as installing conduit in the empty KO.

I'm told unless the people selling the breakers have the ability to test the same then they should not be re-sold? This is because some of these people more than just clean them up they actually refurbish them with parts from damaged breakers.

I'm sure if one was installed and did not work they would be looking at the installer!!!

On the other hand the poor customer has to pay big $$$ to change out the panel for the addition of 1 circuit or a bad breaker.
Humm,I like the idea, more work for us.
