when installing two 200 amp panels in paralell to a 400 amp meter base does the two 200 amp feeds need to be the same length? This is a residential application using ser and two 200amp disconects.

Pierre I think he means two separate runs from the 400 amp meter to two separate 200 amp panels. Parallel but not parallel conductors as in 310.4
If this is whats happening they do not have to be the same length.
Jim are the conductors joined together at one end or both ends?

yes 2 seperate runs to two seperate panels.

Jim in that case the run to one panel can be different from the other. To be considered parallel conductors they would need to fit this description. electrically joined at both ends to form a single conductor. Bob

Would it be possible to run 4" into the basement, or have a weather proof trough, and from that run the 200 amp service feeders to the panels?
Then splice the 500's along with the 2/0's to the panels. Is coming off the bottom of a 400 amp meter with 2- 200 amp runs, allowed?

That's a pretty expensive assembly, for the customer, compared to two runs of SER cable.
