A friend in eastern KY faxed me an “Approval Denied” card from one of his jobs. The reason written on the card is “Incoming water line not bonded to grounding system”. David wrote that the water line is white PVC 40.
Just wondering, how do you bond a plastic pipe, with a plastic ground clamp?

To properly bond this PVC / ABS water line, use:
<OL TYPE=1>

[*]3/8" Nylon Rope-minimum sized conductor,

[*]Non-Metallic clamps (zip-ties preferred),

[*]At least Two (2) supplimental ground rods, made of either 10'×5/8" diameter Acrylic / High Density Polyethylene, or 10'×1" sticks of Schedule 80 PVC.
</OL>

Bond all this to a load bearing wooden framing member (aka header or beam).

Pass a copy of this message on to the person responsible for writing up the non-compliancy report, so there is no mis understanding of how to bond non-metallic water pipes!

I know this is a serious event, and my humor angle may be termed a bit off color, but maybe it would make an impact to that individual as to think "outside the code book" a bit more???

BTW, was any code article referenced? Like to have seen that one!!!
