What do you do when you're not working?

Anyone?

A few years back I bought a foreclosed house for $6000. You read that right. My “hobby” is remodeling / rebuilding it — as time and cats allow.

It’s been a real education looking at contractors from the customers’ perspective.

I like building things and fixing things. Since Ian, I have plenty of opportunity. Anything with a motor in it needed bearings but the rest of the motors seem OK. I have done 4 pumps, 2 air compressors and a few smaller things. 90% of them use a 6203 bewaring and I had a box of them. I ended up ordering another box but they are only about $2 each online if you get a box of 10. I have also had a lot of luck getting small engines going. I had my generator going the morning after the storm. Considering everything was under 4 feet of salt water I am amazed. I am only mad that I didn't grab more stuff that was put out for the trash The street was lined with generators and if you got on them right away I bet almost all of them would be OK. Same with refrigerators. The typical problem with a side by side was the circulation fan motor ($12 on Amazon) and maybe the compressor cooling fan. (another cheap shaded pole motor).
