I did a job a long time ago and the inspector said that pvc wasn't allowed overhead in a concealed area, because if it was to catch fire it would give off toxic fumes. Has anyone heard of this, or did I misunderstand him? I haven't seen this is the code, but maybe it is in a local code or something?? I've only seen that it is not to be used if ambient temperatures are in excess of 122 degrees Far. I guess it's feasible that it will get that hot in attic of course. I've been in some that felt that hot. Thanks for the input.

sparkync:
352.12 (uses not permitted) is where the 122 degrees is mentioned, unless the PVC is 'listed' for higher temps.

Another spot is a rated ceiling assembly, and fire rated construction.
