Some years ago, when webserver space was more expensive we made an arrangement with a hosting company to offer free and low-cost websites (XXX.electrical-contractor.net) to anyone that wanted them.

The whole idea seemed good at the time, and I'm told there are close to 3400 websites there now. Only a small fraction of them are Electrical-related, and most have probably not been active in years.

It has become something quite different than what was intended, and over the years the Hosting company has pretty much taken full control over things. I can't see who has websites, and have no contact info for anyone.

I've told the hosting company my intent to discontinue in 30 days and have asked them to send out emails notifying everyone that they should either purchase their own domain name or make other arrangements directly with the hosting company.

BTW, this will also have the direct result in Browsers coming directly here (hopefully faster) because traffic is not channelled through the Hosting company server first, as it is now.

If anyone has any questions they cam post them here, send me a PM or email.

That sounds entirely reasonable, Bill. wink

Let's face it, a lot has happened since this service was first offered, internet-wise.
These days, hosting fees are a fraction of what they used to be and you can set your own site up for very little nowadays.
