If the dwelling is using IMC, EMT, AC cable or RMC for the wiring method, is AFCI protection required? or the exception to 210.12 applies to the first receptacle only?

Thank you.

The last few words sum it up.

Quote
it shall be permitted to install a combination AFCI at the first outlet to provide protection for the remaining portion of the branch circuit.

You still need the AFCI but you can push it out to the first outlet location.

I'm also pretty sure that they mean the first receptacle on that circuit, not the first receptacle on that conduit run.

2 circuits = 2 AFCIs.

John,

Has anyone seen an AFCI device? Tooth Fairy? Easter Bunny? ELVIS?

I see Elvis at the 7-11 all the time and he has lost weight but, alas, no AFCI device.

Tesla,

I am a little behind in my reading. I have 3 EC mag and 4 IAEI mags ahead of the new EC magazine. However I will get there, sooner or later! smile

Tesla:

You said...."AFCI devices are in the latest edition of EC Mag."

IF you mean page 75 of the 1-11 issue....that is the reference materials from the NEC changes/Handbook!

IMHO, and that of many others here....it does NOT exist!
