Looking over 210.52[E],3 which requires at least one receptacle outlet for balconies, decks and porches of any size, it says the it shall be located not more than 6-1/2 feet above the surface of that area.
So, if this were a GFCI receptacle, would this mean that this is also the maximum height which will meet the readily accessible requirement of 210.8?

As I believe the 'change' was to include any size balcony, porch, etc. and the balance of this section remains the same as '08, I would have to say this GFI receptacle would be acceptable at 6'6" max and be readily accessable.

Yes, I see that they took out the square footage and now made it mandatory for all, regardless of size.
So I guess unofficially anyway, it sounds like a GFCI device can be mounted up to 6-1/2 feet high and anywhere between 0-inches to infinity as far as distance is concerned and still meet the definition of readily accessible.

Interesting thought....
Using the defacto info that a receptacle 5 1/2' high or over does not count for resi spacing, and the supposition that utilization equipment cords are 6' from mfg, the 61/2' height would raise concerns. An invitation for extension cords perhaps?
Basically, my point is place a floor lamp with a 6' cord on the balcony, and you cannot plug it in without an extension cord.
Make any logical sense??
