I have been wanting to get into the solar market, because it seems to be good for the country as well as profitable. I have been to some seminars and read alot. What I am confused about is the State certification and how can 1 person stay on top of all the rules? I really don t want to give up my other work. Can anyone help me out. I am located in PA

Are you saying solar requires a Commonwealth Certification?
Licensed electrical contractors do it here across the Delaware from you. We have EC's that specialize in the solar niche market, and occasionally a few who dabble in something they have no clue about.
As to 'our' rules, engineer drawing (plans) for racking, electrical one-line. Permits required are Building (racking); Electric (All PV Equip)
EC's over here require 34 hours of CEU's. 9 on NEC Changes; 1 on Law; 24 on approved trade related items. All must be done each 3 year Lic. renewal.

Yes if you want to be eligible for the rebates and things. And also a state registration the requiremnts needed are a pulse and $50. for the registration.

On the serious side, why don't you give it a shot? Don't sweat too much on keeping up with the 'rules', just stick with the NEC, unless there are local issues. You could always jump in here for any help/hints!!!

The $ 50 and a pulse gives only gives you the privledge of being a contractor. Then the solar certifications, of which I know little about. This is were it gets fuzzy. I don t have alot of time to chase answers. I'm trying to run a business. LOL So I thought someone might know on this board?

One good source for solar info is a magazine, go to solarprofessional.com & fill out the subscription form, it's free to industry pros.
Training (online & workshop) is available from solarenergy.org
Hopefully, the above will be of some help to you.
