This fine install illustrates how poor planning and false economy lead to work that is both ugly, and in violation. That the gent fancies himself an electrical expert, and is resistant to actually learning anything, makes it all the worse.

He positioned his box before he placed the drywall on the ceiling. Since his wiring method is Romex, there's no reason the box could not have been placed a bit lower:

He considers this box accessible.

Yes, that is a flex connector holding the 3/4 EMT in place. At the other end is this arrangement:

His plan was to go straight into the box, but the door swing blocked the switches ... so another flex connector (90) was used to set the box to the side.
Wanting a clean surface mounted box, he salvaged a masonry box .... he's now looking for a cover to fit it. Good luck! He has an 'industrial cover' on order, and says he'll weld tabs on the box if he needs to, to mount the cover. Some folks, you can't tell them anything!

The pipe lacks any support, other than that given by the connectors, over it's five foot length.

My offer to go to my truck, and replace all this with a compliant installation, was declined.
