Does anybody know in the code book, where it says if receptacles are allowed in closets. A home owner wants a receptacle in the walk in closet of a bedroom. He also wants a receptacle in a small pantry in the kitchen, to plug in a dust buster. Code refrences would be helpfull, thanks for any help.

Doug, thanks for posting the information. The code doesn't actually say if receptacles are allowed in closets or not. The code says receptacles aren't allowed in cabinets. So I'm still not sure about receptacles in closets.

It is very common to find receptacles both in closets and in cabinets.

Master bedroom closets often have the security system panel that need power and sometimes even the GFCI for the jacuzzi tub.

Under counter microwaves (above the stove) are almost always plugged into a receptacle in the cabinet above it.

What article doesn't allow receptacles in cabinets?

It's a Canadian Code rule. There are some exceptions to the receptacles in cabinets rule in 26-710 (i), (j) and (k).

As for receptacles in closets, I haven't found a rule that forbids it. We usually install one in walk-in closets for dustbusters, etc.
