i dont have my code with me but think its in 518 that says if the occupancy of a building is 100 then you cant use rope, right? if we just remodel a few offices i assume the same rule applies. i might be wrong about this. anyway, it costs a lot more so if anyone knows of an exception, or if i'm wrong, let me know.

I believe that the offices adjacent to the activity area (which is where the 100 or more could assemble) could legally be wired with NM cable.

sorry about the shorthand... i'm always getting in hot water here about using it too much....... rope would be NM cable..... so we rope the houses and pipe the commercial jobs etc.... i don't know if these terms are used on the other coast, or in the middle, but it seems to be common here on the left coast.... another colloquialism..... i think the "left" coast comes from all the left wing wierdos from san francisco, portland, and L.A.

When you look at a map of the US your coast is on the left. Hence Left Coast

its an A3 assembly occupancy, basic 2 story stick frame, type VN [5n] nonrated, except for a few stairwells and an area separation wall. this surprised me, but NM will be ok based on 110, 518 and 334. it will have a lot of kids running around and even some classes and training like a school but its not called an educational occupancy so NM works. thanks

In Michigan the common slang terms are "rope" for resi's and "pipe" for commercial/industrial also. Guesss here we are sortof on the "east coast" or maybe "middle coast"-Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Superior, Lake___________ (forgot the 5th one).

Cindy,
On Long Island an SEU service is often called a 'Rope Service'.
