In an old home being gutted and remodeled was Knob and Tube wiring. In one room was a working porcelain Bryant 3-Way switch. I never saw one like this before.
I saw several "front access" switches in that house I updated a few months ago.
Access is easy, but god forbid you throw the wrong breaker and don't "tick test" before you touch it! <tingle>
Of course, I'd bet that the exisitng wiring is rubber insulated / asphalt/linen jacket stuff... and cracked like heck near any receptacles or switches that haven't been well sealed these many years!
