Think about what can happen to you if you are not careful, or familiar with the electrical system in a building!

Wear safety glasses!

Joe,
I wouldn't disparage for a second that anyone should work in panels where there is other Live equipment, without the use of PPE, including Safety Glasses.
Most of my HV training, included, minimisation of the Arc Flash Risk.
Even to this day Joe, I get heckled by fellow Electricians for using Neoprene covers clipped on busses in 400V switching panels.
Sure it takes a lot longer to do a given job, and I quote accordingly.
These are the same sheets us Lineys use on 11kV-66kV Live Glove and Barrier work.
These cover all of the switch-gear apart from the equipment being worked on
The simple point being Joe, if you minimise the risk to the point where an accident cannot happen, you should be pretty right.
That's the one idea I really try and instill into any Apprentice that I train.
But wearing PPE is MOST important!. [Linked Image]

This is a image I captured from an Electrical Safety video by ERI. I have more and they can be found here:

Can I get a copy of the picture?

I'm getting ready to run my people through their annual electrical safety training.

Arc flashes, rubber up cover up etc.. is going to be the main focus. Pictures are worth a thousnad words.

Thanks

Those who work the safest are virtually guaranteed to have the last word. Period.

Graveyards are full of people who lacked common sense.

Just my opinion.

Joe,
The single worst accident that can happen to an Electrical worker (next to falls from hieghts), is the Arc Flash.
Simple things like using un-insulated screwdrivers of the wrong size on Live terminals.
Electricians, by and large, don't like being told that they are doing things wrong, like any other Tradesman.
Mind you, a Carpet layer won't blow himself to bits, if he stretches the carpet the wrong way!.
If you want to work on Live gear, get the right sized/type Screwdrivers that are Insulated to the tip, and for God sakes use the right size one!.
90% of Arc Fault Accidents, that happen here, end up in a screwdriver welded between one of the Phases and the Grounded back Panel.
I'm personally sick of changing Pole fuses for those that SHOULD know better!. [Linked Image]
