this is most likely an easy ?, but i do not know the ans. the ? is "can you use plastic boxes on metal studs? also, where can i find it in the code book." hope someone can help

I believe you can, there are some plastic outlet boxes that are listed for metal studs. I believe the code section you would be looking for is 110-3 (b). Here in NJ we are still using the '99 code. But I am sure it hasn't change. This is the section that says you have to install the product as per the manufactures instruction.

I just pulled out a Raco catalog and they have a box that is listed for both metal or wood studs. The model # is 7717 for a 1 gang and # 7834 for a 2 gang plastic box. I am sure that Carlon and others have them too.
