I've just been looking through the Disk Drive on my old computer.
According to Disk Management I'm only using half of the HDD capacity.(Quarter actually)
Here is what it says:
Disk 0 = 18.67 GB C:= 8.89GB D:=9.77GB
{this is the same HDD, partitioned into 2 parts}

D drive has never actually been used at all, in fact it hasn't even been formatted yet and this is the worrying bit as far as I'm concerned.
Question is, can I format that partition of the drive without wiping off C drive at the same time?.
I'm not going to touch the thing until I get knowledgable advice. [Linked Image]
It would be good to have the extra space, but if it can't be done safely, I won't bother.
Any idea's?.

Thanks,
Mike. [Linked Image]

There is no problem formatting one virtual drive without hurting the other one. That is one reason to partition them that way.
Just be very sure you are pointing at the right address when you format it.
In a single hard drive system that is easy. You just have to be careful if you add a second physical drive. Your addresses will move. There is a trick to prevent that but that would only confuse the issue at this point.

Just be sure you are pointing at D and format it.

Greg,
Thanks mate!. [Linked Image]
That really helped.
I've had more than 2 bad experiences with HDD's and I wasn't about to lose all my C:\ stuff again.
Cheers mate!.

Hard drives are cheap. I usually have several old ones on the shelf with data on them just so some stuff is always safe. All of my systems have multiple drives. A CD burner is pretty good for archiving off stuff you want to save but there is nothing like having copies on a hard drive.
I swap SCSI hard drives like diskettes.
Just be aware that when a new drive shows up in your system your addresses will change.
(unless you do the "0k primary partition" trick)
Be careful.
