What size monitor do you use?
Is it a standard CRT or one of the new LCD types?.
Just interested.

14" CRT on this system.

I still have an original green-phosphor 12" IBM monochrome monitor on another system that I prefer for prolonged word processing.

17" CRT,
But I might buy an LCD type, if the prices EVER come down over here, by that time, the computer I've got will probably as much use as a ZX-81, is now!. [Linked Image]

My 14" monitor decided to go out with an impressive display of flashes across the screen and a burning smell over the weekend. [Linked Image]

I spent a little time inside it, but soon realized that enough components had been smoked to make it not worth spending any more time or money on. It also happened to be the only SVGA monitor I had here at the time (ain't that typical?), so I dashed out and picked up a cheap 17" monitor at the local "big box" store, the only place open around here on a Sunday.

The larger CRT certainly makes the itty-bitty text on some web-pages that much easy to read, and with an increased screen setting saves some horizontal scrolling on a lot of pages.

The only thing I don't like about it is having to go through a whole load of silly on-screen menus to adjust brightness, contrast, height, etc. You know the drill: Press the menu button, use the arrow keys to select the option you want from a load of cryptic symbols, hold the OK button until the option turns green while chanting the appropriate incantation........ [Linked Image]

I prefer the "old-fashioned" approach of physical controls for such adjustments.

21" NEC bought used 6 months ago at computer show for $175...

and 21" Nokia bought two weeks ago, also (obviously)used, at computer show for $75.

New 21" monitors start at a little over $500. New 19" LCD $700+

Going to have dual displays pretty soon...

19" Viewsonic CRT on this machine, 17" Gateway CRT on the other. Would not mind some LCD's, we just replaced the monitors at the plant for our boilers with 23" Viewsonic LCD's, VERY nice! Saves a ton of desk real estate and are very easy to move for individual operators. [Linked Image]
