What is the relationship between these two, if any?

Can you possibly capture 180hz harmonic current and transform it back to 60hz so it can be re-used in the distribution system?

Sound far-fecthed?

Dnk....

I think it only goes one way. Higher harmonic multiples can be made from lower base frequencies only.

All I know is that a jolt with 115v, 400Hz aircraft power has a lot more hurt to it that standard 60Hz AC.

I found that out in the Air Force when I went to disconnect a mobile generator plug (Dash-60 for you military folks) from a particularily hostile A-10 aircraft. The next thing I knew I was on the ground at the next plane over, about 50 feet away!!

This happened because one leg of the three-phase contactor was defective and welded closed. and of course it happened to be the outermost pin on the connector!

Luckily it was monsoon season, I was sweating and soaking wet. The current entered my left palm and exited my right heel.

Ahhh, the fun! [Linked Image]

I don't think you will get alot of usefull power out of your 3rd harmonic. You could probably design a low power tuned supply that only used the 180Hz + or - but I think it would have more use in "cleaning" the system than actually powering anything. You could maybe build an electric 3rd harmonica, but you couldn't play it anywhere with clean power. Seriously though, I doubt you could get past conversion losses to get it back into your distribution system.
