Got a no power call to an older condo (formerly ???) in a rough neighborhood.... checked the subpanel, (in the bathroom, with 30A QO's!) & there was no power coming in, went off to find the meter/main in the alley.... The breaker just wasn't there! This might expain the loss of power! [Linked Image] The breaker above hers was in sad shape also

Here in my part of the country, stealing breakers from old abandoned and unused panels is fairly commonplace. Someone must have wanted that breaker awful bad to remove it from a STILL FUNCTIONING service! [Linked Image]

How long did it take you to find that QO panel, hidden away up there? I guess it's good that it wasn't located in the shower or under the sink...

Randy; Somehow, I knew that this would be one of your posts (before reading your name at the bottom). You get all the exciting service calls. [Linked Image]

Yea, it does seem like Randy gets the interesting calls while the rest of us get the routine stuff. [Linked Image]

I bought a 2 Pole 100A Pushmatic a couple of weeks ago-$85.00 reconditioned used from the local breaker house, but to STEAL one??? Huh??? [Linked Image]

Does anyone think that the bushed elbow/telephone ell, call it what you may that feeds the little subpanel is a violation? Can you pull the conductors with it in place?

(showing off my ignorance)...How do you "recondition" a breaker? It sounds like a pretty dicey operation to me. Does any kind of guarantee/warranty come with this?

My suspicion is that "reconditioned" means "we wiped the dirt off."

reconditioned as explained to me by a local breaker house (I'm sure Scott's been to this one [Linked Image] ) is they blow all the dirt out with compressed air, place it on their test bench & check for proper operation/tripping characteristics, & then sell it... This breaker house gives a 2 year warranty on reco's, 1 year on new LOL
Scott, this was only a 40A 2P in the first place! I'm sure the phone elbow would make pulling new wires all kinds of fun! Although I have a feeling AHJ in Santa Ana wouldn't allow this to remain in a bathroom anyways!

They also give you new attachment screws and sometimes new lugs with a reconditioned C/B.
They don't test instantaneous trips, they say it's "too destructive."

(Some of you have real twisted ideas of what constitutes "fun") [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
